"The Law or Nah: Debunking Employment Law Myths"

Program - MC-SHRM General Meeting   9:05*AM-10:15AM (*Registration 9:00AM-9:05AM)

Presented By: Dustin A. Paschal, Attorney - Simon Paschal PLLC

Over time, best practices presented to HR professionals have evolved into "legal requirements" that HR mistakenly believes it must follow.  While best practices are best practices for a reason, and should generally be followed, it is not always possible for HR to follow a particular best practice.  This presentation focuses on various employment law requirements and busts the myths about mistaken beliefs regarding legal practices.

Participant Learning Objectives:

  • Identify legal requirements that exist in the workplace and how best to comply with them
  • Assess areas of concern that many believe are legal requirements but actually are not
  • Determine how to apply this dichotomy of legal requirements vs. best practices

Dustin A. Paschal, is an Attorney and a founding member of Simon | Paschal PLLC, a boutique employment law firm in Frisco, Texas. Dustin maintains an active employment law practice including advice and counsel in nearly all areas of employment law.  If it’s an HR related issue, Dustin likely handles it for his clients.

Dustin is a former President of DallasHR and currently serves as the Chair of DallasHR’s Board of Trustees. Dustin also serves as the Texas SHRM State Director-Elect. He is a former Texas SHRM District Director as well as Legal & Legislative Director. Dustin is passionate about education and regularly travels across the state speaking on HR topics to various organizations.

Dustin likes HR so much, he married an HR professional! When Dustin isn’t working, he is trying to keep up with an active five year old son or planning his next trip. If Dustin wasn’t a lawyer, he’d probably be a snow skiing bum trying to figure out what to do in the offseason!
