MC-SHRM is delighted to welcome Assistant Chief Joshua Bruegger for another enlightening presentation aimed at helping employers identify drug impairment in the workplace.ᅠᅠ

Public safety officials have had a long-term commitment to educating our communities about all aspects of traffic safety which includes driving impairment. The aim has been to reduce the number of fatalities and injuries on Texas highways.

Recently additional efforts have developed to educate employers and employees about workplace safety as it relates to impairment of individuals on the job. By establishing this educational partnership, the "Drug Impairment Training for Employers" sessions focus on providing businesses with practical information to identify and address potential workplace impairment concerns.


Participant Learning Objectives:

- Discuss how to educate employees on safety

- Identify signs and symptoms of impairment, including alcohol, illicit drugs and prescription drug use

- Develop or improve a resource guide for drug policies, programs and practices within your organization

Joshua Bruegger, Assistant Chief of Police-Operations, Pasadena Police Department was born in Houston and grew up in The Woodlands where he graduated from McCullough High School.ᅠ In December of 1997, Josh graduated from Sam Houston State University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice.ᅠ Josh began the 48th Pasadena Police Academy in March of 1998.ᅠ Upon completion of the academy, Josh was assigned to night shift patrol.ᅠ

In April of 2000, Josh was a founding member of the DWI Task Force, which was recognized state and nationwide for their efforts in impaired driving enforcement. Josh was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2004.ᅠ As a Sergeant, Josh served on both night and day shift patrol.ᅠ In June of 2006, Josh was assigned to the Detective Division where he supervised both the Crimes Against Persons and Property Squads, as well as the Domestic Violence Unit.ᅠ In 2009, Josh was assigned to the Internal Affairs Division until 2012, when he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and assigned to night shift patrol and the K9 Unit.ᅠ

Currently, Josh is the Assistant Chief that oversees the Operations Bureau, which incorporates Patrol, Motorcycles, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, K9, and the DWI Task Force.ᅠ Josh is a graduate of the 240th Session of the FBI National Academy and has earned a master's degree in criminal justice leadership and management from Sam Houston State University.
HRCI: This program has been submitted for pre-approval for 1.00 (General) recertification credit hour toward California, GPHR, HRBP, HRMP, PHR and SPHR recertification through HRCI.
